Course Description
This is a 9-week (334 hour, 5 unit) basic law enforcement training program designed for Seasonal Park Rangers preparing to work for the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and many other agencies. The instructors are career professionals, actively involved in the particular specialty they teach.
The program includes 35 subjects ranging from constitutional law, criminal law, laws of evidence, arrest, and search & seizure to defensive tactics, driving techniques, and firearms. A considerable amount of time is spent on practical, hands-on training. Real life scenarios are presented in subjects as vehicle accident investigation, domestic violence, hunter violations, driving under the influence, and crime scene management.

Costs California Resident Cost: $1038* Course costs include all required fees: registration, ammunition, driver training, handouts, and health fee. Parking fees are not included.
Out of State Resident Cost: $1988* Any person who has not been a California resident for one year prior to the first day of the semester in which he/she will attend is required to pay out-of-state fees.

Days and Hours Classes are conducted Tuesday through Saturday from 8 AM to 5 PM with some evening and weekend sessions. Tests are given each week on the material covered during the week. A score of 75 is required to pass. Students are required to make a minimum grade of 75 in all aspects of the program, including report writing, firearms, driver training, defensive tactics, and practical skills. Students also participate in physical conditioning testing that is not part of the final grade.
Minimum Requirements There are no prerequisites for the Ranger Law Enforcement Training Program; however, there are specific qualifications for employment with the NPS. It is recommended that the student be in good physical condition.
Students are required to dress uniformly while attending the program. The mandatory clothing consists of a gray cotton shirt, green cotton pants, and heavy-duty shoes or boots. Students will also need gym clothes and tennis shoes for the defensive tactics training. Pens, pencils, notepaper, and a three-cell flashlight are also required.
