Certified by the state Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), provides instruction and evaluation of all academic, physical, and behavioral traits required for employment as a peace officer in California.
This page should provide you with most of the information necessary regarding the Police Academy at Santa Rosa Junior College. To begin a career in Law Enforcement, you must plan ahead. For the Intensive Academy, all candidates must attend the testing and orientation phase to be eligible for the academy. The following information is the testing and orientation schedule for the classes of 2009.

All interested Intensive Academy applicants must attend the orientation on one of the dates listed below. This orientation will explain the selection process and provide an overview of the course. The P.O.S.T. reading and writing test will be held immediately after the orientation.
If you have taken the P.O.S.T. reading and writing test at the training center within one year of the start date of the academy you are applying to attend, you do not need to retest if you scored T-42 or higher.

This intensive 20 week academy meets from 7 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday in addition to some evenings and weekends.
The Academy teaches criminal law, laws of search and seizure, laws of evidence, traffic laws, investigative techniques, patrol procedures, firearms, driver training, defensive tactics, first aid, CPR and more.
The Academy is certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.). Successful completion of this course will make you eligible for employment as a police officer or deputy sheriff anywhere in California.
Qualifications and Information The class will be held at our facility at the the Public Safety Training Center in Windsor. All your travel, transportation, and accommodation arrangements should be made with this in mind when you consider enrolling in this Basic Law Enforcement Class.
Students wishing to attend the Academy:
- Must present photo I.D. at the time of testing.
- Must POSSESS a valid driver's license at time of the class.
- Must pass the P.O.S.T. Reading/Writing Test with a score of T42 or higher. (Required by most California law enforcement agencies)
- Must be eligible to register as a student at Santa Rosa Junior College without a waiver of College regulations.
- Must pass a California Department of Justice criminal records check (non-refundable cost $46). Non-residents must also pass an FBI criminal records check. (An additional non-refundable cost of $26)
- Must pass a medical examination.
- Must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D. certificate.
- Must purchase or possess all Academy uniforms and equipment (approximate cost $2000).

AJ200.12/AJ 200.13/AJ 200.14 Basic Police Academy - Modular Basic Course Date and Time Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:30 PM - 10:30 PM Saturdays 8 AM to 5 PM. Some Sundays to be announced.Course Overview The Modular Basic Course is presented in three separate modules. Each module fulfills the P.O.S.T. minimum requirements for reserve officer training. Successful completion of all three modules satisfies training requirements for both Level 1 Reserve Training or completion of the regular Basic Course.
Level 3: The student will complete the 176 hours. required for both 832PC and Level 3 Reserve Officer Training. The training encompasses ethics, law, evidence, search and seizure, defensive techniques, and firearms.
Note: Students must obtain a Department of Justice clearance prior to the second week of class. Contained in the application packet is a form for Livescan fingerprints and instructions.
Level 2: The student will complete 271 hours of P.O.S.T. certified training. The training consists of criminal law, laws of arrest, report writing, use of force, crimes in progress, community relations, defensive techniques, chemical agents, and firearms. Level 1: Prerequisite: Must pass the POST reading and writing test with a T-42 or better. May take the test during Career Day, Level 3 training (date TBA) or Basic Academy Orientation. The student will complete the final 399 hours of training. The training includes juvenile law, controlled substances, ABC and traffic law, emergency vehicle operation, high risk vehicle stops, accident investigation, crime scene investigation, firearms, and defensive techniques. Successful completion of this module satisfied the P.O.S.T training requirement for Level 1 Reserve and completion of the regular basic course for full-time peace officers. Each course is certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and meets the minimum training requirements for the POST Basic Certificate.
Material Fee costs do not include California resident college registration fees of $26 per unit, or the student health fee of $17 per semester. Also, they do not include uniforms and equipment. Students will be required to purchase specified uniforms and equipment in Module A - Level 3. The complete uniform and equipment list will be required in Module C - Level I. Cost of uniforms and equipment is approximately $2,000.

Module C Level 1 Reserve AJ 200.14 Dates: July 6 - December 2, 2010 Days: Tues/Thurs 6:30 PM - 10:30 PM, Sat 8 AM - 5 PM, Sun TBA Material Fee: $730 Prerequisites: Completion of Module A and B after January 2000. Students are required to pass the Level 1 Entrance Exam. New students are required to attend an orientation. College Units: 9 The California resident college registration fee for academic year 2010 is $26 per unit. In addition to college registration and material fees, students must purchase uniforms and equipment. Students will be required to purchase specified uniforms and equipment in Module A - Level 3. The complete uniform and equipment list will be required in Module C - Level I. Cost of uniforms and equipment is approximately $2,000.

For students who do not qualify for financial aid, a payment plan for college fees (excluding uniform costs) can be arranged for students with a demonstrated need. A payment plan may be authorized only by the Academy Director.
