Lawrence A. Bertolini Student Services Center Rendering and Construction progress (Updated 8/12/08) The steel framing of the three story, 78,000 squaree foot student services center is nearing completion with a "top off" ceremony anticipated in September 2008. The geothermal drilling portion of the project is anticipated to resume by early September. Additional environmental testing is underway which will assist the college in determining the appropriate drilling methods along Burbank Circle. Bertolini Hall is due for completion in late September 2009.
___________________________________________________________ Petaluma Phase II/R The Petaluma Phase II project is approximately 98% complete with the College taking possession of remaining facilities (Physical Fitness Center, Mahoney Library, Central Plan and Smith Bookstore) in late May early June 2008. The new Phase II facilities, including Call Classroom and Administration Building and the Art & Science Wing, will be operational during summer school and for fall 2008. With the anticipated December 2008 completion of Phase I Reconstruction (Phase R) work, Petaluma will truly become a "balanced" campus offering a full array of instructional programs, student services, a first class library and media center along with a new and expanded bookstore and cafeteria. Much of the Summer 2008 will see the completion of casework, shelving and built-in equipment installations as well as assignment and reassignment of new and existing furniture and equipment.

The Plover Hall conversion project is complete and now occuupied by an array of Student Services opertions including Admisisons and Records, Financial Aid, Scholarship, Assessment and Testing, New Student Program Services and a cashiering function. The 32,000 gsf facility was rehabilitated at a cost of $10 million divided nearly equally between the State of California and SRJC Measure A Bonds. The sense of the college community is that the conversion project not only has worked out well, it was a far less expensive solution in developing Student Service program space. Had the college attempted to replace the same square footage with a new facility, the costs would have exceeded $17 million. The college decided not to build another multi-story facility on the north side of Elliott thus easing the possibility of a "canyon effect" along Elliott. With the completion of the Bertolini Hall, the Santa Rosa Campus Student Services and Student Activities space will exceed 110,000 square feet.
__________________________________________________________________ Culinary Arts Center sRJC continues to plan the Culinary Arts facility to be located on the east side of Mendocino facing the campus. Preliminary design is underway. The college has held two California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) scoping sessions where the public was both informed as to the plans and status of the new Culinary Arts Center as well as given the opportunity to express opinions, concerns in regards to the impacts of a 22,000 sf, two-story structure. The exterior design will reflect the college's heritage architectural theme and will have the bakery address the street with a view into the building. Five teaching kitchens are p lanned along with a 60-seat cafe, bakery and classroom space. It is anticipated contruction will commence in the fall of 2009 with an 18-month construction schedule.

This 49 KW project will be funded from previous rebates and itself will spur a $130,000 rebate from which we wish to generate further green related projects. Recent projects as well as future facilities are designed to LEEDs guidelines thus insuring sound environmental practices in the use of building systems, construction materials, furniture and equipment. Administrative Services is joining with the Institute of Environmental Education to further plan and adopt green policies and practices. An ad hoc green committee composed of facilities and administrative staff, IEE faculty and staff will commence meeting in the fall of 2008 in order to establish a proposed standing committee on environmental issues. ________________________________________________________________________________ Greenfields Project The physical education and athletics greenfields project is nearing design completion with the ecquisition of the turf slated during summer 2008. The college hopes to commence site and installation work during 2008-2009 on the fields and some auxillary structures (dugouts, concession stands, etc.). Total project cost is valued at $6 million. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Five-Year Master Plan ProgramThe college has submitted its annual Five-Year Capital Outlay Program which merges state and local planning into the college's facilities masterplan. This year's submittal included the following projects: Public Safety Training Center Advanced Laboratory Project: Preliminary plans have been previously approved and working drawings will commence this next fiscal year. It is anticipated the project will be eligible for construction in 2009-2010. Santa Rosa Laboratory & Office Complex (Barnett Replacement): Preliminary drawing funds may be available in 2008-2009 pending state funding approvals. This previously approved project will be funded with state and local funds. It is not a Measure A project. Health & Wellness Center (Tauzer Gymnasium Expansion & Rehabilitation Project): This project has been approved at the Final Project Proposal level (FPP) and may receive state drawing funds in 2009-2010. This $67 million project would be funded with state and local funds. It is not a Measure A project. This substantial expansion and upgrade project would house disabled physical education, dance, physical education and athletics as well as provide for a new 50 meter pool, expanded activity space and much needed student support space. Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics Project (Shuhaw/Bech Replacement): The proposed 78,000 sf, three-story facility would be located on the site of existing Shuhaw Hall. Expanded laboratory and office space will be among the hallmark interior facilities. This is a non-Measure A project estimated at $61 million in state and local funds. Assuming approval of state funding, preliminary plan funds would be released at the earliest in late 2010 or early 2011. Bailey Hall Space Conversion: Future planning for the post-student services planning will commence during the fall semester 2008. It is anciptated to remain an office and conference center. Conversion planning and construction are a portion of Measure A funding. Burbank Auditorium Initial Project Proposal (IPP): Preliminary planning work is underway for the development of an ititial project proposal (schematic programming) which would lead to a major rehabilitation of interior and exterior Burbank Auditorium space. The project will focus on upgrading existing building systems and infrastructure as well as locating a "black box theatre" inside the current communications studies space (that program is slated to move to the SR Laboratory and Classroom Complex). The black box theatre would allow for much needed experimental theatre productions and rehearsal space. Future Land Acquisitions: The college's master plan calls for the addition of property adjacent to or near the Santa Rosa Campus, Petaluma Campus and possibly in north and west county. Typically, land acquisitions are funded through local funds. The property, however, must meet state eductional facilties planning criteria. ________________________________________________________________________________________
